The new bathrooms, flight information, new smoking rooms, passport control gates and airport sign are all part of a strategy to enhance passenger experience at EIA and build on work completed in 2018 to completely renovate the airport’s AC systems, install modern fire detection and suppressant systems and finally to repair the roof, following settlement of a long standing contractual issue with airport construction company Makyol. Future initiatives include a new free high speed wi-fi service for passengers, a new, expanded duty free offer, as well as new food and beverage offers.

In August EIA has a record month, with the highest ever passenger total, 215,000 arriving or departing. The previous August record was 200,969 in 2017. The 14% rise, year on year was the highest ever for a 31-day period with a daily average of 6,935 pax. In September, with the holiday season over, passenger numbers dropped to 178,008, a 3% year on year increase.

Airport Director, Talar Faiq said :

It has been a busy summer and we are delighted to see growth return to EIA, after the hiatus of the international blockade. Delays, whilst a reality of air travel, were kept to a minimum and resources were found to support the extra demands on immigration and security.

The new airport sign, new bathrooms, smoking rooms, and flight information all form part of our strategy to be a safe, comfortable and easy to use airport. We are after all, the gateway to the region, and we want to offer passengers the best experience possible.

Aside from passengers we have been focusing too on cargo with a project to speed up processing times with support from customs and security. Just as we want to make it easy for passengers to use EIA, we want to make it quick and efficient for those bringing cargo to the region and become the airport of choice for air freight in Iraq. “
