[Historical]Koya Qishla

Koya Qishla is located in the north west of Koya city, in the Erbil Governorate. It features the old headquarters of the Government, which at the time was known as the Koya district. There are two opinions about its history: the first one suggests that Koya Qishla dates back to the  Mamluke era whereas the second argues that it was built by Madhat Pasha, the Wali ruler of Baghdad (between 1869 and 1872 A.D.), in the Ottoman era.  The building includes the military factory which features 4 towers in the corners and is surrounded by high walls for better protection. The second floor of the building has several rooms.
